Norwegian postal service buys a leading Scandinavian logistics company

Oslo/Stockholm, 29 August 2008

The Norwegian postal service is purchasing the remaining 50% of Pan Nordic Logistics from the Danish postal service making it the total owner of one of Scandinavia’s leading logistics companies.

The Norwegian logistics company PNL, with its head office in Stockholm, moved 12.3 million packages during 2007 and is one of the leading logistics companies in Scandinavia. It is operative in most of Europe but primarily in Scandinavia, where Sweden is its most expansive market. PNL provides operations and private customer services within cross-border package distribution. This segment is one of the most expansive within the logistics market.

”This purchase forms an important part of our plan of being one of the leading companies in the Scandinavian logistics market. We are in a strong position within internet purchasing, and this acquisition provides us with an excellent platform for intensifying our efforts in Scandinavia,” says Dag Mejdell, CEO, Posten Norge.

”Posten Norge is an attractive owner for us. It is one of the most innovative and customer oriented postal services in Scandinavia, and closer cooperation with the whole of the Posten Norge group gives us a strong competitive advantage,” says Benny Rhe Hansen, CEO for Pan Nordic Logistics.

Since its launch in 1997, Pan Nordic Logistics, has quickly established itself among the most competitive in the market. In 2007, PNL grew by 21% and had a turnover of 1.6 MSEK. The result before tax (EBIT) was 45 MSEK. This strong growth has resulted in the development of the company’s production system. A new main terminal is being built in Jönköping and is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2009.

”PNL is a well-organised company with a solid, international contractual network and large customer base. It fits perfectly into our present Scandinavian logistics organisation,” says Mejdell.

Up till now PNL has been equally owned by the Danish and Norwegian postal services, and the details of the transaction have not yet been made public. The takeover will occur immediately, providing the agreement is approved by Swedish, Norwegian and Danish competition authorities.
