PNL helps castaways on the Cattegat
Volvo Parts has chosen Pan Nordic Logistics (PNL), owned by the Danish and Norwegian postal companies, to distribute spare parts to Volvo Penta´s customers in Denmark. These Danish customers demand very fast deliveries and are scattered in spots in the archipelago which are small and difficult to reach.
PNL picks up the parcels from Volvo Parts´ storage in Gothenburg and delivers before 10 am the next day. The small parcels, with an average weight of 5 kg, often contains spare parts, used to repair engine breakdowns on boats. Hence, speed is a prerequisite for these deliveries.
PNL´s flexible and fine meshed network suits Volvo Parts´ distribution of spare parts to Volvo Penta very well. Compared to other logistics companies, they are less hierarchic and have a quicker process for making decisions. Our demand on PNL was that they must manage our service level at the cost of an ordinary parcel, says Joakim Niklasson at Volvo Parts.
The sales of spare parts to boat engines depend on the season. During March September sales are high, whereas very little is sold the rest of the year. In total, about 6000 parcels a year will be distributed by PNL. Volvo Parts are responsible for the distribution of spare parts to customers in a number of divisions in the Volvo Group. Volvo Penta is only one of them. Volvo Trucks, Volvo Buses and Renault Trucks are other examples.
