Electronic Data Interchange - EDI

Barcoding is a must and to reduce time consuming manual data entry EDI is an important part of our processes both with customers and suppliers.

In respect of transmission PNL focus on easy made and low cost solutions by use of the Internet. An EDI file may simply be attached to an email and sent directly to the EDI system of Pan Nordic Logistics AB. Alternatives to this method are FTP via the Internet or transmission via traditional VANS operators.

The main EDI benefits are:
- Use of a standard transport label (STE) instead of a special dispatch note (form of 5 pages)
- Reduced typing of information saves time and reduce number of errors 
- Faster and more efficient processing both for the sender and the receiver
- Receive status reports via EDI (IFTSTA or flat-file format) from PNL

PNL supports the use of international standards and recommend the UN/EDIFACT message IFTMIN (release S93.A) for the transmission of package information. However, as some of our customers do not have easy access to EDIFACT support we have produced a simple flat file format as an alternative to the IFTMIN message.

Alternative Solutions
In case that the data and/or functionality in the administrative system are insufficient we recommend the use of our internet solution My PNL. This system prints parcel labels and transfers EDI information directly to the systems of PNL. My PNL offers in addition a number of services which can help you facilitate the administration of your parcels and pallets.

You can also choose to use one of the PC or web based solutions which a number of software houses have specialized in. These solutions support a wide range of transport companies.
